RIVER VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
ART

Sec 2 students engage in an old-school well-loved craft of carving on the linoleum. Linoleum (lino for short) was the material originally used for floor covering. High quality linoleum material was favoured over ceramic tiles as it would not crack.
Working on the linoleum as opposed to wood carving is preferred as it is a much softer medium. Drawing can also be clearly traced and outlined on the lino surface before cutting.

Skip the basics, go straight to Colour Reduction Process!

In this module, students will experience the joy of crafting their self-portrait in a realistic to semi-representational manner. Students are often more familiar with the use of discarded cardboards for making 3-dimensional models or prototypes. For this relief, students will learn to work by flat layers, create textures and tonal values to bring out 3-dimensional effect on 2-dimensional areas.
Silkscreen Printing, is the process of transferring a stencilled design onto a surface using a mesh screen, ink, and a squeegee (a rubber blade). This is commonly applied in the printing of T-shirt Designs and Posters. Students will experience the process from making the silkscreen template (stencilling and burning) to printing on paper.
